From a small sari-sari store, change is now realized in the lives of the Sendong Survivors from Xavier Ecoville.
Xavier Ecoville is a resettlement community for TS Sendong survivors located in Brgy. Lumbia, Cagayan de Oro. It is mainly assisted by Xavier University – Ateneo de Cagayan , the community, the local government, donors and valued partners to form an independent or self-sustaining community.
Today, the community’s multi-purpose cooperative (XEMPCO) has 6 major enterprises which include the sewing enterprises run by women from Xavier Ecoville producing quality and stylish bags for livelihood. The sewing enterprise project aims to equip and train the unemployed housewives to make a living and change their lives for the better. This project is a re-echo of the successful run project at Gawad Kalinga in Sooc, Iloilo.
Higala! On its first anniversary, the community is celebrating another milestone by showcasing the latest katsa and tarp bags sewn by the women of Ecoville shown on the 2nd Level of Limketkai Center that will run from November 15-23.
To culminate the celebration, a runway show will be held at the atrium of said mall on November 23 at 4PM to be attended by their ambassadors, volunteers and partners.
Truly this is a project worth supporting as it promotes environmental and livelihood awareness. Should you miss their events, bags and other items can be purchased at the PagBAG-o Shop located at H-3B Miranda Building, Chaves Street, Cagayan de Oro.
