We all know that breastmilk is best for your baby, and the advantages of breastfeeding extend well beyond basic nutrition. To add, the breastmilk contains all the necessary vitamins and nutrients all the babies need in the first six months of life. Breast milk is also packed with disease-fighting minerals that protect babies from illnesses.
In line with creating awareness on the importance of breastfeeding, a Global Big Latch On event is set on August 6, 2016 (Saturday) at the Limketkai Mall Event Center. It is called “Hakab Na!”, an event where mothers gather and simultaneously breastfeed our babies at the same time.
“Hakab Na!” aims to gather 300 families on Saturdays. This is twice the number as the previous year’s attendees.
Behind “Hakab Na!” are the Modern Nanays of Mindanao (MNM), a group of mothers who advocate breastfeeding, babywearing and cloth-diapering. It’s a budding group consisting of over a thousand members comprising of stay-at-home moms, working moms, pediatricians, obstetricians, advocates and families.
The Global Big Latch On or Hakab Na encourages and supports communities to make breastfeeding a normal part of day-to-day life and identifies opportunities to provide on-going support for all families. It is the most amazing, fun, global event and a local community-based celebration of families held every August during World Breastfeeding Week.
