To reduce the use of plastic bags and to promote the city's campaign for the environment , a Memorandum of Agreement for the "CdeO EcoBag", an initiative of the Environment & Natural Resources Committee and the Social Services Committee, was jointly signed by City Mayor Vicente “Dongkoy” Y. Emano and representatives of the major malls and supermarkets (like Ororama, Gaisano, Robinsons, Savemore and SM City) in the city during this week’s flagraising ceremony at the City Hall. This City Ordinance #12395-12 is dubbed as the City Ecobag Project. The supermarkets and major malls around Cagayan de Oro will no longer give out plastic bags or containers to their customers unless they would opt for it.  It is known to the public that SM Supermarkets have observed the "No plastic bag day" or...

After Dibuho - The Northern Mindanao Visual Art Congress last July 2012, this August 2012, Kagay-anons will again witness another art exhibit at the City Tourism Office and it's called "Art Tsada".  The exhibit is open to the public with the participating artists doing ‘on-the-spot’ painting demonstrations and workshops during the fiesta celebrations specially dedicated to Sendong survivor children to help them recover from the psychological trauma brought about by the disaster. Sendong Survivors Received 160 More Houses from Fil-Chinese Communities

Philippine Progressive Mason Club, Inc. - a non-profit organization, a brotherhood org and one of the 14 chapters all over the Philippines plays a vital role in our community and one of which is giving out 160 houses to Sendong survivors. The turnover was done last June 8, 2012 at Calaanan, Cagayan de Oro City. They are also targeting to give out 600 houses (160 initially) and the improvement of the alarm system in CDO as part of their calamity preparedness drive. They are also advocates of education and volunteer fire brigades in the metro. Other than that, the org also is active on medical missions and relief operations.  Philippine Progressive Mason Club, Inc. is just one of the 22+ Filipino-Chinese Communities in the country that continuously help for the betterment of our communities....

Young Legislators Donate Houses to Sendong Survivors

In their own way to help the survivors of Sendong or Typhoon Washi, a group of young congressmen came to Cagayan de Oro to donate 7 houses through Gawad Kalinga at Canitoan, Cagayan de Oro City – May 5, 2012. Silip Basura 2 concluded last April 9, 2012 at Sil-ipon, Libona, Bukidnon with the theme:  "An encounter of head upstream of Cagayan River after Sendong" aims to form values and mindset of taking good care of our Mother Earth by doing the simple act of picking plastic wrapper and planting trees. Help from the NGOs poured in and people from different organizations offered their assistance, their time to help Cagayan de Oro rise up back to its feet.
