VEST, a People-Led Movement to Invest in Nature

VEST, a People-Led Movement to Invest in Nature

CDO News
The Philippines, located in the tropics, has its share of typhoons yearly. When a low pressure begins in the warm Pacific Ocean, our country could be its next possible route. We are not exempted; in fact, we have learned lessons from the devastation Sendong (Typhoon Washi) has left our silent and booming city last December 2014. Sendong, an Unforgettable Experience I can still remember the night when Sendong struck the City of Golden Friendship, it was quite a struggle, rushing brown-muddy water came in our house so fast that we have to evacuate the soonest. That night, the status in the society did not matter. It was the night where survival was vital. I tell you, there are still a lot of stories uncountable and unpublished that will crush your heart. One thing is sure – we learned ...

Remembering Sendong – the Memorial Wall

CDO Events, Nightlife in CDO, Press Release in CDO
PRESS RELEASE: REMEMBERING SENDONG THROUGH THE JCI BAI LAWANEN MEMORIAL WALL More than 500 persons remain missing in Cagayan de Oro a year after Typhoon Sendong devastated the city on December 17, 2011. Families who were left behind had nowhere to go to honor their loved ones who untimely passed away. JCI Bai Lawanen, Mindanao’s first all-lady chapter of Junior Chamber International Philippines, considered the painful emptiness that these families were feeling. And voila! They conceptualized the JCI Sendong Memorial Wall Project. A community project, that will serve as a sanctuary for the grieving families. On the 8x12 feet size memorial wall, made of romblon marble, are etched names of those who died and still remain missing due to Sendong. This tribute will stand with honor and di...

Silip Basura 2

CDO Events, Remembering Sendong
Silip Basura 2 concluded last April 9, 2012 at Sil-ipon, Libona, Bukidnon with the theme:  "An encounter of head upstream of Cagayan River after Sendong" aims to form values and mindset of taking good care of our Mother Earth by doing the simple act of picking plastic wrapper and planting trees. Below are the pictures from the recently concluded event. Thank you to Penny Cunanan for the photos.   SILIP BASURA -Caring our remaining watersheds together The idea of SilipBasura started with an idea of cleaning a place from plastic, a major cause of flood in creeks. By picking plastics and other non-biodegradable materials inculcates the values of local action to contribute to the global desire for a sustainable world. The small band of volunteers choose the Lumad villag...

Non-stop Help for CDO

Remembering Sendong
Tropical Typhoon Washi (Sendong) struck Northern Mindanao 2 months ago leaving homeless and displaced families in the evacuation centers. Help from the NGOs poured in and people from different organizations offered their assistance, their time to help Cagayan de Oro rise up back to its feet. WOWCDO.com is not only focused to CDO events, attractions, and tourism, this Cagayan de Oro themed website also publishes WOW CDO Stories that we could look up to, just like this inspiring story: A woman by the name of Eena Sarayba from Ladera Ranch, California, USA sent out a Balikbayan Box to her good friend Vivien Aguilar after hearing the news about what happened in Cagayan de Oro. In spite of the distance, some people would reach out to the Sendong Victims. From the people of CDO - Thank you v...
